My name is Jessica (Archit-essica), I am currently living in New York and architecture fascinates me…
I am a undergraduate student at New York University studying Urban Design and Architecture. I love what I study but I still find it difficult to retain all the information being thrown at me for the different classes I am enrolled in. And so this blog came to be – I thought in order for me to learn about these different buildings and urban issues, why not teach someone else. Taking on the role as a teacher forces you to not simply have a brief understanding of a topic, but a deep knowledge that you may convey to someone else with confidence.
It took me awhile to gravitate towards something that I can picture myself doing for the rest of my life. I came into this university as a Math major because someone told me I would be a good actuary – not so much. Then I switch to Computer Science because I am great with computers and they need more women in the industry – the math required was killing me. Solution? Major in Urban Design and Architecture, minors in Computer Science and Web Development and Applications. My grandfather was a steel engineer and architect and worked on the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge. Guess it is just coded into my DNA.
As I learn – hopefully so will you. That’s my objective.
I also love feedback and feel free to get in contact with me for any reason. Whether it be some issue that you have seen or you simply saw a flower and thought it was interesting. I’m all ears… I mean eyes.
