The Greenwich Village Society of Historic Preservation rallied at Silver Towers against New York University’s plan to expand it’s campus further into Greenwich Village. NYU plans to erect a 40-story, 400′ tower within architect I.M. Pei’s Silver Towers complex – which contains landmarked buildings. This would be the first step in a large scale plan for expansion – and this picture basically explains how I feel on the subject so far.
Speaking of the complex, Pei noted that, “A city, so far from being a cluster of buildings, is actually a sequence of spaces enclosed and defined by buildings. This may sound strange but it is the essence of urban design.”
